A WOMAN who was told that she would never conceive, is celebrating after giving birth to a healthy baby.
Lisa Witchalls, 25, of Crow Lane, Romford, had no idea that she was nine months pregnant when she was rushed to Queen's Hospital, giving birth just hours later.
Lisa said: "It has taken me some time to get my head around that I am actually a mum.
"I went from being told that I would never have children, to giving birth. But the whole family is just ecstatic."
She was rushed to hospital on Sunday, June 6 after coming home from a day out with her boyfriend Dean.
Lisa was taken to the accident and emergency department.
She said: "I was just really worried because I thought that I had an ulcer, but the paramedics had told Dean that I must have been pregnant. I thought that it could not happen because if a doctor tells you that you can not have kids you do not question it."
After checking her blood pressure and when two pregnancy tests came up positive, Lisa was told that she was 35 weeks gone and was transferred to the labour ward.
But after a problem with the baby's heart beat, she was measured again and was told that she was actually overdue.
Lisa said: "I could not get my head around what was going on and I went through so many emotions.
"First of all I was just happy that I was pregnant and I thought that I would have some time to get use to the idea but I was told that I actually had to give birth straight away."
Hours after being told that she was pregnant, Lisa was given a Caesarean section and Reece was bornweighing 7 lbs and 4 oz.
She said: "I was in shock and I just could not believe that he was mine. To go into the hospital thinking it was an ulcer and to come out a week later with a baby is really crazy."
Last year, after undergoing months of tests, gynaecologists told Lisa was told that they were 90 per cent sure that she would never conceive because she only had one ovary.
Throughout the nine months she was carrying Reece, Lisa did four home pregnancy tests which all came up negative. She even joined a gym a week before giving birth.
She said: "I was devastated that I could not have kids and I would never be able to have a family of my own."
She has now been told that the pregnancy could have been missed because the baby was lying on one of her ovaries, but she is still due to undergo more tests.
Lisa said: "Looking back its very scary because I must have had every type of test done and they could have easily harmed the baby.
"My nan, who died in February, always said that I would have kids one day, but I always thought that she was being a typical grandmother, but she was right.
