Connor helps fourths complete winning Goresbrook weekend
29 July 2010
Goresbrook IVs 204 beat Thurrock 83 by 121 runs
GORESBROOK fourths completed a landmark weekend of four victories across the board, with a walk in the park over Thurrock on Saturday.
What a difference a week makes for the Dagenham side, as Connor Elliott (70) helped the club to forget a whitewash of defeats a week earlier.
After mid-table 'Brook were surprisingly put in to bat, the 16-year-old made hay with 15 boundaries from 66 balls as Goresbrook took advantage of a smooth wicket.
Captain Keith Maund followed with an unbeaten 38, while Bobby Gaymer (14), Jack Simmonds (12) and Chris Wilding (11) all made solid contributions as Goresbrook topped the 200-mark.
Hornchurch captain Alex McClenelan (4-35) did his best to restrict the run flow, but to no avail as 'Brook always looked in control with the bat.
Thurrock's reply started in the worst possible fashion, as Elliott McCartney went for a duck on the first ball of the innings. Cousins Joe and Shane Barwick had a field day with three wickets apiece, before Thurrock put up a late revival to delay the victory charge.
Rory Grant (31) and Jack Day (22) made admirable stands, but it wasn't enough to stop the fourths rounding off an historic two days.
