Promoter Goodwin plans title night at York Hall

29 July 2010
NEW promoter Steve Goodwin looks to make a real impact on the fight scene over the next couple of years and launches London boxing's new season in style with a promising bill planned at York Hall, Bethnal Green, on Saturday, September 11.

Goodwin, from a horse racing background, owns a successful syndicate company, Diamond racing, and he is a long-time boxing fan, who is looking to join Britain's leading fight promoters.

He has boxing shows booked on regular dates at the traditional home of British boxing in east London where he has already staged successful bills.

He launches the autumn action announcing a top of the bill 'grudge match' between English Super featherweight champion Ryan Barrett and TKO gym trained challenger Mark Alexander.

Alexander suffered his first pro defeat against veteran campaigner Michael Brodie a year ago, but has bounced back in winning form and would like to claim Barrett's English title to boost his career.

Popular Pat McAleese, trained by Johnny Eames at Canning Town's Ultrachem gym, also looks for title success on the York Hall show after chalking up 10 straight victories with one draw in his impressive middleweight campaign.

The draw came over six rounds at Dagenham's Goresbrook Leisure Centre in March when he faced experienced Barnsley middleweight Lee Noble and the pair are booked for a return meeting in a British Masters title fight - the first 10-round contest for McAleese.

Another unbeaten fighter on the show is Dagenham cruiserweight Tony Conquest looking for his fifth straight victory since shedding his amateur vest.

Two of his stablemates training at the Jason Rowland Noble Art gym in Rainham, unbeaten welterweight John Wayne Hibbert and Billy Slate are also named on Steve Goodwin's September bill.

Hard hitting Hibbert already chalked up six straight victories in his pro career while light heavyweight Slate has two victories on his record.

Light middleweight prospect Michael Norgrove is also on the show and looking to continue his winning ways which have brought two pro successes since he shed the amateur vest of the Repton BC.

Former ABA Champion Bradley Evans, based at the Hainault gym of trainer Tony Sims and undefeated after five bouts as a professional, will look to put on another impressive display with a four round contest booked on September 11.

Promising light welterweight new boy Jamie Arlain from Bethnal Green looks to explode on the professional scene with an army of loyal followers supporting him in his debut.

Also billed are unbeaten lightweight Tony Owen, light heavyweight newcomer Joel McIntyre and girl featherweight Marianne Marston making her pro debut.
